Summer is made for snacking. I find myself fitting so much more in the day in the summer, and obviously spend way more time outdoors. I snack a lot, but in little moderation. I found these to be my favorite healthy (ish) snacks for the Summer days.
CELERY & ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER
A classic for all ages. I’ve never hated celery, but I wouldn’t necessarily say I love it either, but celery has been said to have awesome health benefits like anti-inflammation properties & aids in lowering blood pressure. Peanut butter has got a bad rap lately and I have no idea. It’s kind of been pushed aside for other nut butters like Almonds & Cashews. It’s not that peanut butter (if you’re getting the right kind) is worse for you than other nut butters, both are very high in healthy fats, it’s just that almond butter has more monounsaturated fats & higher fiber. I just can’t seem to acquire the taste of almond butter and it’s pretty pricy. The problem with peanut butter is that, like most things, to keep it’s shelf life long, producers put unhealthy ingredients in it. So you’re healthy delicious peanut butter turned into something the complete opposite. I would stay away from anything that is no-stir required. The way I get my peanut butter is by taking a glass jar to the grocery store with me and using their peanut butter machine. It’s more sustainable as you aren’t buying a plastic jar each time you need PB, it’s cheaper, and you know that all you are getting is crushed up peanuts.
ANGIE’S BOOMCHICKAPOP SWEET & SALTY KETTLE CORN
Everyone and their mom eats these babies and for good reason. They are addicting and the perfect movie snack for someone who loves to snack on popcorn but doesn’t want all the processed garbage. I know nothing really beats movie theater popcorn, but this is probably the best thing I could find that doesn’t make me feel guilty after eating it. The ingredients are amazing – Popcorn, Sunflower Oil, Cane Sugar & Sea Salt. That’s it folks.
CRACKERS & GOAT CHEESE
When it comes to crackers, I like just your basic round crackers. It can be hard to find those with minimal ingredients but I think I hit the jackpot when I found Back to Nature’s Classic Round Crackers. These crackers are delicious and have no hydrogenated oils or high fructose corny syrup. They pair nicely with goat cheese. I love Vermont Creamery’s Spreadable Goat Cheese. Vermont Creamery is the bomb. From family farms to local ingredients, this lovely company creates amazingly fresh and delicious products.
Roasted Sunflower Seeds
I will use sunflower seeds either in my salads, as a topping for my veggies, or just as a handful to carry around with me. Sunflower seeds have such amazing health benefits which makes them the perfect easy snack. Sunflower seeds are high in fiber, vitamins, and magnesium. They are great for your skin, your heart, your bones, and your nervous system. I mean…they are amazing. I will eat them plain, but I love roasting them in the oven with coconut oil.
