When I graduated from college, I moved from south Florida to Oregon where I didn’t know a soul. Before I moved, the farthest I lived away from home was just a little over an hour away. Being an introvert I had no idea how to meet people, so a friend mentioned a dating site. That’s right, I met my fiance on a dating site…OkCupid.
I had exactly two dates before I met him. They were duds to say the least. I decided I was not one for dating sites. The ratio between creeps and prospective gentlemen were too unbalanced in favor of the creeps, obviously. So that night I was going to delete my account when I got a message from my future husband. We talked for a little on the site, then exchanged numbers and texted back and forth for two days before our first date.
I really got lucky with this man because he’s the first guy in my entire life that didn’t play any sort of game with me. He was interested in my life and what I had to say. He cared and showed it and it was such a relief to not worry so much or have to try to figure out how he felt about me.
Although I was very nervous, we connected almost instantly and he was so easy to talk to. We spent hours and hours talking and then when I got home we texted some more. He actually had a date a couple days after and cancelled to hang out with me more. That was really it. We both had discussed on our first date about how we are not ones to date around. We like monogamy and so that was it. We were in a committed relationship from our second date, and if we are being totally honest with ourselves, from our first relationship. Who knew that that night would totally change my life, for the better. I deleted my OkCupid account that night.
